Hurstbridge Line Upgrade Stage 2
Planning for the second stage of the Hurstbridge Line Upgrade is now underway. The upgrade will deliver further improvements on the Hurstbridge line, including more train services, less crowding on peak trains and better connections to public transport in Melbourne’s north east.
The project will involve:
- building a new and modern station at Greensborough
- a major upgrade to Montmorency Station
- duplication of around 3 kilometres of track between the suburbs of Greensborough and Montmorency
- the duplication of around 1.5 kilometres of track between Diamond Creek and Wattle Glen.
Site investigations are currently underway and construction for the project is expected to begin in 2020.

Before construction works begin, LXRP needs to seek appropriate planning approvals.
To facilitate these works, LXRP will request the Minister for Planning to make a change to the Banyule, Darebin, Nillumbik and Yarra Planning Schemes. This is known as a Planning Scheme Amendment (PSA).
The PSA process gives the community and other interested stakeholders the opportunity to share what is important to them.
You’re invited to provide feedback on what we should consider as we plan for the project. This feedback will be included in our formal request to amend the planning scheme.
Submissions close on Friday 28 February 2020.

The Level Crossing Removal Project successfully delivered the first stage of the Hurstbridge line upgrade, duplicating a 1.2 kilometre section of track between Heidelberg and Rosanna. It delivered two extra weekday services, a brand new station in Rosanna and removed two dangerous and congested level crossings at Alphington and Rosanna.
Your feedback will help us understand what is important to the local community and what we need to consider as we develop this vital rail project. Thank you.
Feedback closes Friday 6 December 2019.
