Melton Highway Public Art Commission

LXRA wants to support local communities around Melbourne to be prosperous, safe and vibrant – great places to be.

We’re removing the level crossing at Melton Highway in Sydenham, by building a road bridge over the Bendigo/ Sunbury rail line.

As part of the project, and in conjunction with Brimbank City Council, we’re seeking expressions of interest from individuals or groups with the capacity to deliver an artwork as part of the project. The art work will be installed in the new space beneath the bridge.

The undercroft space is approximately 25 x 40 x 4 metres

The commissioned artwork will enrich the public domain and complement the new and existing urban design of the area. The commissioned work should:

• Encourage use of public space by members of the community;

• Showcase a high level of artistic skill, innovation and aesthetics;

• Reflect the unique cultural history, environment and/or sense of community of Sydenham;

• Increase community understanding of, and engagement with, contemporary art.

For more information about the existing urban design of the area, take a look at the Urban Design Summary in the documents library.
